Querying is HARD.

It doesn’t take much looking around to realize trade publishing is in a state of flux. With the threat of generative AI clogging slush pile inboxes, overworked agents and editors, and powers that be who are reluctant to take risks, isn’t it better to pack it all in?

I beg to differ. Great books are getting representation and book deals everyday, and I don’t think yours has to be an exception to that rule. That’s why, on November 23 and 30, I’ll be offering a webinar to help you stand out from the slush pile.

[Webinar] Prepping Your Query Package for the New Year
from $78.75

Join professional editor and published novelist Jessica Hatch on Monday, November 23, and Monday, November 30, at 11 a.m. for a live, 90-minute webinar, to cover:

  • The building blocks of a query letter

  • Using comparative (“comp”) titles to your best advantage

  • How to distill your whole darn whole plot into a one-page synopsis

  • How to build a list of agents to query—and more!

Two “hot seat” opportunities will be available in each session—one for a query letter and one for opening pages. All attendees will receive swipe files to help track queries and build agent lists, as well as a bonus freebie of their choice.

Choose the VIP add-on to book an hour-long coaching call with Jessica in December, get feedback on your first twenty-five pages, and receive a hand-selected list of twelve literary agents to query. (That’s my full coaching time at half the price!)

Your Instructor

I got my start in New York trade publishing in the early 2010s, with internships at Writers House and assistant roles at the then-fledgling (now-flourishing) New Leaf Literary & Media. From learning what agents look for in a manuscript at Writers House to what sells a book in the publicity department of St. Martin's Press, I apply these A-to-Z insights to my editing work and to the advice I give my clients even today. My editing clients have gone on to land agents and book deals, win national awards, and be placed on "Best Books of the Year" lists. Some have even made the jump from self-publishing to trade publishing, and the decade of experience I have working with these writers has provided me with a wealth of information to share.

In addition to my editing credits, I’m familiar with the querying process as a novelist! My query letter for my first novel landed me an unagented two-book deal with Hachette Book Group’s Bookouture imprint. I have been a writer in residence at Vermont Studio Center, am an alumna of the Aspen Summer Words and Mors Tua Vita Mea writing workshops, and have been published in the likes of Fast Company, Money.com, and The Millions.
